The Historic Home of President Andrew Johnson Reopens

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (NPS) — Andrew Johnson National Historic Site will officially re-open President Andrew Johnson’s historic Homestead in downtown Greeneville on Monday, May 4, 2026.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors back to the home of President Andrew Johnson,” says park Superintendent Aaron Shandor, “We are grateful for the dedication of our staff and partners in overcoming the challenges required to safely reopen this important historical resource.”

Guided tours will resume daily, beginning May 4, at 10 am, 11 am, 2 pm, and 3 pm. Tickets for guided tours are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis at the park visitor center, 101 N. College Street.

The Homestead closed in September 2025, due to a faulty electrical line that almost started a fire. A series of factors including severe winter weather and a ruptured water line further delayed efforts to make repairs and reopen.
