General Morgan Inn Makes National List
For ‘Most Romantic Places To Propose’

Looking for a romantic spot to get engaged? Look no further than the historic General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville.

The Historic Hotels of America – the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation — recently declared that the General Morgan Inn was one of the “Top 25 Historic Hotels for a Romantic Proposal.” The hotel, built in 1884, is one of only two historic hotels in Tennessee to make the list.

“The General Morgan Inn has a rich tradition of being the area’s top choice for romance, whether it’s for a proposal, wedding, anniversary or weekend getaway,” said Michael Brown, general manager of the hotel, located at 111 N. Main St.
The inn is frequently the site for proposals. “Popular spot are at night under the stars on our Garden Terrace, by the fireplace in our lobby, and by candlelight in the restaurant,” he said.
Brown believes the General Morgan Inn was selected out of the more than 300 historic hotels in the country for the recognition because of its elegance, charm and signature service.
“Our grand hotel features 50 luxuriously-appointed rooms and a magnificent honeymoon suite,” he said. “We also have Brumley’s, an award-winning restaurant with candle-lit tables in three distinct dining rooms. Our lobby is a showstopper with crystal chandeliers, silk-embroidered antique tapestries and a roaring fire with its original 1894 mantel. Our second-floor, open-air Garden Terrace boasts panoramic views of our historic downtown, including several picturesque church steeples. Combine all that opulence with our friendly, knowledgeable staff and you can’t help but be popular.”

The General Morgan Inn also is a frequent destination for numerous wedding ceremonies and receptions throughout the year in its Grand Ballroom and on its Garden Terrace. “We are proud to be a historic location for our guests’ historic events,” Brown said.
A favorite with guests year-round is the hotel’s “Romance Getaway” Package, he noted. The package includes an elegant room, choice of champagne or a sparkling beverage, homemade gourmet truffles and a romantic dinner for two in Brumley’s.
