Greeneville to Host Tennessee Main Street Managers

Main Street: Greeneville, Inc. will host the Main Street Managers from across the state Thursday and Friday, September 19 and 20. The Main Street movement has been transforming the way communities think about the revitalization and management of their downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts for decades. Specifically, Main Street is three things: a proven strategy for revitalization, a powerful network of linked communities, and a national support program that leads the field. The National Main Street Center is a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. There are currently thirty-five state and nationally accredited communities within the state of Tennessee.

The Main Street Four-Point Approach is a unique multi-faceted economic development tool that enables communities to revitalize their downtowns by leveraging local assets — from historic, cultural, and architectural resources to local enterprises and community pride. It is a comprehensive strategy that addresses the variety of issues and problems that challenge traditional commercial districts by focusing on the areas of Design, Economic Vitality, Organization and Promotion.
While here the group will have multiple opportunities to visit various projects within the eighteen blocks of the local district. They will report on their program’s activity and progress and learn more about various programs and grants from a variety of presenters including TN ECD Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Brooxie Carlton; Nancy Williams, TN Main Street Program Director, Jonathan Russell , TDOT Office of Community Transportation as well as Dave Jones, TN Department of Tourist Development for East Tennessee.

Main Street: Greeneville, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation having been formed in 1983.
